Handmade 100% Wool Coat Care
It is safer to dry clean your handmade coat as dry cleaning helps prevent the material from shrinking. However, should you insist on hand-washing your wool coat, here are instructions you can follow:
Hand-wash Instructions
Step 1: Brush the coat using a soft lint brush to blot surface soil and lint from your garment. Be careful when brushing your garment, do not rub.
Step 2: Soak the wool coat in cold water containing mild detergent for ten minutes. Then, hand-wash after ten minutes.
Step 3: Rinse out the detergent by swirling the garment in clean, cool water.
Step 4: Lay the coat on a clean towel and press another clean towel against the coat in order to reduce the water in the coat.
Step 5: Air dry your handmade wool coat on a flat surface situated in a well-ventilated area.
Ironing
Place your wool coat on a flat, clean surface. Place a sheet or pillowcase over the wool coat and gently press using a steam iron.
Storage Care
- Hang your wool coat on a broad, sturdy hanger to preserve the shape of the shoulders.
- Always hang your wool coat in a well-ventilated area and away from dirty items.
- Dry clean your wool coat twice a year; at the beginning of each season.
- Store your coat in garment bags lined with cedar chips to avoid damage by moths.
